Écoles Internationales du Pré Vert

GPIS is the only IB world school in Egypt, to date, authorized to offer the three IB programmes
from K-12 in both English and French languages.

Primary Years Programme

The Primary Years Programme (PYP) of the International Baccalaureate (IB) is a programme designed for students aged 3 to 11 years and is taught in GPIS since 2003 (Authorisation accreditation date).

A Transdisciplinary Curriculum Framework

The PYP curriculum framework centres on transdisciplinary learning as the curriculum organizer for students to experience learning between, across and beyond traditional subject boundaries.

Six Transdisciplinary Themes are considered essential in the PYP. They support conceptual understanding and cater for the transdisciplinary nature of the programme.

The Transdisciplinary Themes are:

  • Who we are
  • Where we are in place and time
  • How we express ourselves
  • How the world works
  • How we organize ourselves
  • Sharing the planet

The Learner

The PYP curriculum framework begins with the premise that PYP students are agents of their own learning and partners in the learning process. They have innate potential to inquire, question, wonder and theorize about themselves, others, and the world around them.

Learning and Teaching

Informed by constructivist and social-constructivist learning theories, the emphasis on collaborative inquiry and integrative learning honours the curiosity, voice, and contribution of the students, for whom the curriculum is intended. The approaches to learning and approaches to teaching articulated in What is an IB education? play a crucial role in the inquiries into the six transdisciplinary themes aimed at promoting understandings about human commonalities of local, national and global significance.

The Learning Community

The PYP learning community brings to life learning and teaching practices that support students in pursuit of a significant, relevant, engaging and challenging learning experience.

Programme of Inquiry 2021-2022

PYP is an inquiry-based programme, which puts emphasis on the active construction of meaning so that students’ learning is purposeful.

GPIS has a Professional Development Unit that supports the growth and expertise of teachers. Teachers receive on-going training that caters for the effective implementation of the PYP.

Assessment embodies a holistic design, incorporating both a backward and forward-looking approach in which feedback is integral to learning and teaching.

GPIS build a schoolwide assessment culture which focuses on developing assessment capable students and teachers.

Teachers monitor, document, measure and report on learning using an integrated, ongoing process.

Students keep evidence of their learning and progress in a portfolio. They invite their parents to  Student-led conferences. These conferences are designed to allow students to share their learning journey with their parents.

The PYP Exhibition is a time where PYP students, in their final year of the PYP, demonstrate their engagement and understanding of the essential elements of the programme and share this with the whole school community.
